Genome is an EU-licensed Electronic Money Institution supervised by the Bank of Lithuania. As a result, opening a Genome wallet is always subject to onboarding checks and our internal policies. Not every application can be approved, and eligibility can change over time.
This article explains what to expect if you're unable to open or complete a personal wallet registration, and what options may still be available to you.
Why a personal wallet application may not be approved
As part of onboarding, we carry out due diligence and apply internal, risk-based policies. Under our Terms and Conditions, Genome may decline or restrict the opening of a Genome wallet at its discretion, in line with its internal policies and risk appetite, and taking into account its legal and regulatory obligations.
For security and compliance reasons, we're often unable to share the specific reasons behind an onboarding decision. This is standard practice for regulated financial institutions and is not a comment on you personally.
If your personal wallet registration can't be completed, any application you submit will not be processed further.
If you already have a Genome account
This does not affect existing clients. If you already have a Genome personal wallet, your account, IBAN, and all services continue to work as usual. There's nothing you need to do, and there's no impact on your funds, cards, or transfers.
If you represent a company
If you're looking to open an account for a business, for example, as a company director or an authorized representative, you may still be able to apply for a Genome business wallet.
To do this, please submit a business application.
Once we receive your application, our team will review your company's eligibility and get back to you with the next steps. Submitting an application doesn't guarantee account opening. Every business is assessed against Genome's onboarding criteria, including the List of permitted countries for legal and natural clients and the List of prohibited business activities.
What to have ready when you apply:
- Your company's registration details (legal name, registration number, country of registration)
- The nature of your business activity
- Your role in the company (director or authorized representative)
- A business contact email - our team will use it to follow up with next steps
